Alms to the poor vs giving to wealthy ministers. Biblical Promises from God!

Please take the time to read carefully #thetruthaboutthetithe Ps 41:1-3 41:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. 2 The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. 3 The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness. KJV

Brethren, do you understand how powerful those three verses are and the promises contained in them? When was the last time you heard those promises? When was the last time they were preached from your pulpit? When was the last time you prayed them to God in your time of trouble reminding Him of His promise? There are so many amazing promises tied to giving to the poor.

One of the most important parts of giving in scripture that does not receive nearly as much attention as tithes is alms. Every church should have a benevolent fund set up to give to the poor. It's not a holding fund for cash to be dipped into to fulfill other needs as many churches do. In the same way that Christ carried a bag of donations to be distributed to the poor every church should have a fund set up to do the same. This fund should be specific and no other distributions should be taken from it.

I remember reading the church history of how Rome was won over to Christianity. The pagan believers would go to the pagan temples to get help in the manner of food in the time of need and would be turned away. When these same nonbelievers would go to the Christian churches for help, they would receive it from them even though they were persecuting these same Christians. These early church believers were showing love and the act of alms giving was winning over many nonbelievers.

The saddest part of the alms story is there are so many promises tied up in giving to the poor that is not mentioned in many churches because it does not bring wealth to the ministers. So alms is put on the back burner or never spoken of because it will take away from what's given as tithe and offering. Now don't get me wrong, I know some churches that have awesome alms ministries set up that the poor can truly count on. Churches where love pours out and the poor and needy can receive food, clothing, and even shelter. We should all applaud and support these churches doing the right thing. If the churches would concentrate on preaching the gospel and love, then alms would be mentioned many a day. Believers would be well versed on the promises left to us by God for giving to the poor.
